Press Release Color for Vision

It is high time that eye donation is voluntarily adopted by society instead of waiting for government to make Organ Donation laws. India is sadly known as the “Blind Capital of the world” as we have the largest number of blind persons in the world. More than 3 million people are eagerly awaiting corneal transplantation to gain vision & sight. Nearly 70% of blindness in India is preventable.

Niramaya brings a ray of hope in South Haryana/NCR. It is a grass-root NGO dedicated to providing quality community eye care for blindness prevention. Its eye bank; Y P Mahindru Niramaya Eye Bank is continuously creating awareness for eye donation in the region. Since 2004, Niramaya has been organising events like Run for Vision, Walk for Vision, Blind fold walk, Gurgaon Carnival etc. Such events have made a hugely positive difference in the number of eye donation. Since 2005, 1198 eye donations have been facilitated by Niramaya restoring vision to corneal blind.

This year to continue our awareness drive, Niramaya has chosen the theme of “Color for Vision”, a painting competition for school children at Dev Samaj Vidya Niketan Gurgaon. More than 500 School children from all walks of life are participating in this event.
